Blocher Jewelers has been creating memories since 1907 when founded by Paul W. Blocher. In 1938, Paul W. passed away, leaving his daughter Ruth Blocher Rearic to assume leadership of the store. By 1947, Blocher’s had bloomed into something so great they had to relocate the store to 507 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City. Soon after in 1954, Ruth’s daughter, Rikki Blocher Rearic Blank joined her at the store. Finally, in 1992 Mary Blank DiCaprio became the fourth generation to enter the Blocher world.
Blocher sells everything from engagement rings to pendants with sparkle and beauty in-between. Specializing in brilliant diamonds, they demonstrate the Four C’s of diamonds, carat weight, cut, color, and clarity, giving every customer a flawless diamond.
Every year Mary travels to Antwerp, Belgium to hand select diamonds for her customers. Antwerp is where 60-80% of the world’s diamonds are cut and traded, know as the “Diamond Capital of the World.” Not only does Mary travel to ensure her customers are getting the highest quality, Blocher complies with the Kimberly Process, which prevents conflict diamonds from entering the diamond trade, and by doing so, they are able to import conflict free diamonds to the U.S.
Blocher’s is also a member of the Independent Jewelers Organization and the American Gem Society. With the AGS only one out of twenty jewelers, designers, appraisers, and suppliers in the U.S. and Canada have met the standards for membership which speaks volumes about the type of business Mary DiCaprio runs. In fact her grandmother Ruth was the first women to join the American Gem Society.
Some of the jewelry collections they currently carry are; Elle Jewelry, Pandora, 24K Rose, Cherie Dori, Diamonds from Antwerp, Galatea, and many more. With services such as, jewelry and watch repair, custom design, bridal registry, engraving, and much more.
“We still hold true to the original values of family, quality and tradition that have made Blocher Jewelers a part of Ellwood City for over 100 years,” DiCaprio said.
